Pears are dear to my heart, having worked closely with Harry & David over the years, but also having enjoyed the beauty of their orchards and fresh produce in hometown, where I lived for 52 years!
I was spoiled, I know. So this BEST Butternut Pear Soup Recipe is a yummy recipe for fall! My friend, Lori, makes a mean Pear and Fennel Soup that is good, too!
Butternut Pear Soup
Today I’m sharing a very easy, butternut squash soup recipe. I’ve made several batches of this soup, because guess what? It doesn’t last long in my house. It’s devoured almost as quickly as I make it.
Next week I’m hosting a ladies dinner party, and this soup is on the menu! The garam masala is a great addition, and of course the fresh thyme really adds to the flavor.
Ingredients for Butternut Pear Soup
All you need is onion, butternut squash, pears, cream, stock, and then spices and herbs.
Saute the onions, butternut squash, and pears.
Add the rest of ingredients, puree and serve.
Serve with a tiny bit of creme fraiche & fresh thyme!
How to bake butternut squash
Using precooked butternut squash, this recipe takes about 25 minutes to whip up!
Or, if using raw butternut, bake at 400 degrees and cook for about 20 minutes.
Or, stovetop: Cook with 1/2 cup water, salt and pepper, 2 T. honey until tender (with a fork).

YUM!!! What a perfect soup…I’ll have to try this. Why are pears perfect to give as a gift? Why aren’t they…lol…yummy fall flavor to go with so many recipes!
I have tried these pears and the fruit lives up to all the high praise. A box of Harry & David Royal Riviera pears is a unique gift that is sure to please even the pickiest of recipients!
I love pears! My grown kids love pears. I usually make them a fruit basket to take home with their favorites. I would include some pears for them and save some for me.
I think pears a great gift because they are delicious and very versatile.
Pears are so extremely versatile you can do anything with them. The range is endless from eating them right off the tree to poaching them in a syrup concoction or Riesling wine (and then serving them with a Chantilly cream…yum!!!). I have to say my absolute favorite dish with pears is a Gorgonzola Cheese and Pear sandwich I tried at a High Tea in the Grand Floridian Hotel….double YUM and I found the recipe at AllEars.net so now I can have it anytime I want!!!

I think pears are perfect to give because they are so doggone delicious! They are one of my favorite things in the world to eat. We have made pear cakes, I eat pears with cheese as often as I can, but I’ve never had it in soup. I have a butternut squash in my basket in the kitchen right now and I had never considered adding pear to that soup. I’m going to have to get some pears today!
