I love holiday hosting. It’s a beautiful thing with a great reward, to have friends over to share a meal at the “most wonderful time of the year.”
Today I’m talking about hosting a “new-to-you” party, something you’ve never done before, and leaning in to the holidays by enjoying your home, and sharing a delicous Cranberry Orange Pinwheels Appetizer recipe!
Change it up!
I was talking to a friend the other day, about how she doesn’t like to host dinner parties anymore because it’s just too stressful–but at the same time, they miss having their friends over. I encouraged my friend to host a brunch! What a fun thing to do on a weekend, when you have plenty of time to prepare, and enough time in the morning to get it all together. There are so many ways to change up entertaining!
She loved that idea. Sometimes I think we need to be inspired to try something new. What works for some people, which seems so effortless, may not work for others. What works at certain times of our lives might need changing up at others.
It means a LOT to get an invite.
As life goes from season to season, I’ve learned to be flexible. Many of of worry about our homes … are they perfect enough, what will people think, I don’t have this project or that project done. What will I serve? Where will everyone sit … the list goes on and on.
Today I’m sharing about my home, and what it really means to be invited in.
Let me just say, it means a lot.
Give the gift of a dinner party.
Last weekend we entertained a two couples, one couple just having turned 80! My gift to them was to host a dinner party for them. Back in the spring I told them both that I had “one year” to get their party on the books!
It was delightful, and the house was so pretty with holiday fare.
I did clean my house, but many things were not perfect. Our guests do not care. I can say that our guests do not care. Most of what happens at a dinner party happens in the dining room! (Our dining lights with a dimmer.)
This is how you grow.
I think it’s important to entertain all walks of life. Multi-generaltional is one of my favorite ways to practice hospitality … the older and the younger at the table together.
I love this quote … we can all learn from one another. Sharing, dining together, the act of eating (so intimate), is one of the greatest gifts in life.
“Become friends with people who aren’t your own age. Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn’t come from your social class. This is how you see the world. This is how you grow.”
Now I’m going to share how the adorne collection from Legrand has made my house more functional, beautiful, and stylish.
Last year, we upgraded our original 1970s light switches and plates in our home. The new gold and silver colors blend in with the style of the home and wall colors, and we really love the “touch” and ease of the dimmers, plates, and USB ports. You can read more about it HERE, but I’ve woven in some photos of my home today.
Switch it out to match your holiday style.
For the holidays, an option is to switch out the adorne® wall plates to match your holiday style. The Custom Wall Plate allows you to decorate any which way you’d like.
DIY – customize your own.
DIY-ers have used everything from wallpaper to nail polish in the past to customize their plates, which makes it a fun project for the holidays, the new year, spring redecorating, etc. Some additional colors are:
Also with holiday entertaining, the adorne Under-Cabinet Lighting System has added outlets, lighting, USB chargers, and more, which really gives your kitchen the support it needs for holiday entertaining.
Our home is decorated and ready for guests. It is what it is … I will not fuss or get stressed out about it, but will lean into the holidays by enjoying our family and friends!
We really have to monitor our stress level, our commitments, learn to say no and yes at the right time! Holiday timing is almost like a dance. You have to be creative, try new things, keep your eye on the end results, be flexible, and try some new “moves.”
Cranberry Orange Pinwheels Appetizer.
I tried a new appetizer, which was a hit, Cranberry Orange Pinwheels Appetizer. So fun and festive with a little zest on top!
We enjoyed them first in the living room with drinks, Christmas music playing in the background, and a festive spirit.
It’s very fun to change things up. Maybe it’s my personality, but I do not like to get caught in a rut, always doing the same thing.
Planning a “new-to-you,” which in my case was an 80-year-old dinner party in December, was perfect for me!
Are you changing up your entertaining this holiday season by hosting a new-to-you party?
Orange Cranberry Pinwheels Appetizer
- 4 soft flour tortillas
- 2 8 oz packages cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup dried orange cranberries, I buy at Trader Joe’s
- 2 bunches diced green onions
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 orange, juice and zest
- Mix cream cheese and garlic salt together until well blended. Add 1 tsp. of fresh squeezed orange juice. Spread evenly over each tortilla.
- In a small bowl, stir together the cranberries and onions. Sprinkle the mixture over the cream cheese spread. Lightly press cranberry/onion mix into cream cheese.
- Roll up tortilla; trim off the ends. Cut each tortilla into about 10 even pieces using a serated knife. Place on a platter and garnish with fresh orange zest!
