The French dip sandwich is one of my favorites, made with leftover roast beef. We turned this classic sandwich into delicious a Cake Pan French Dip Sliders recipe,  perfect for game day, a tailgate party, or any gathering!

On hoagie rolls or dinner rolls, add sliced roast beef, carmalezied onions, Jack cheese, and a buttery topping. Serve aus jus for an irresistible appetizer or dinner. Grab a cake pan and get started!

Ingredients for French dip sliders:

  • Unsalted butter
  • Yellow onions
  • Fesh parsley
  • Kosher salt + black pepper
  • Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • Jack cheese, slices
  • Deli roast beef (or use pastrami or leftover roast beef)
  • Unsalted butter
  • Dried onion soup mix
  • Packet au jus gravy mix
  • Chopped parsley

With the melty cheese baked into the rolls, the buttery onion topping is everything! It’s crunchy, salty, and so tasty, with the soft toasted sweet rolls. Like our _____ sliders, this recipe is so easy to make to serve a crowd.

How to make a cake pan of roast beef sliders

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Using a mandolin (or a knife), thinly slice the onions.
  3. Add the onions and saute until soft and browned.
  4. Add the parsley, salt, and pepper, stir to combine, take off the heat, and set aside.
  5. Preheat the oven and butter a 9×13 pan (you can also use cooking spray).
  6. Take the rolls out of the package, leaving the rolls intact. Next, take a large knife and slice the rolls across, so you have the tops and bottom separated.
  7. Place the bottom of the rolls, cut side up, into a 9×13 baking dish. Top with half of the cheese slices.
  8. Add the roast beef and top evenly with the sauted onions.
  9. Add the remaining cheese, then add the tops of the rolls over the onions.

Make the butter mixture:

  1. In a small bowl stir together the melted butter and onion soup mix.
  2. Drizzle the butter sauce over the top of the sliders (or you can brush it on).
  3. Cover loosely with foil, and bake.
  4. Take the foil off and bake an few minutes to brown the rolls.
  5. While the rolls are baking, prepare the au jus per the package directions, with the water.

Serve the rolls with warm au jus on the side for dipping.

Tips & substitutions

Swap out the Jack cheese for your favorite cheese, like mozzarella, pepper Jack, or Gruyere.

Optional to leave off the parsley, as it’s more for a garnish than flavor.

Mix up the meat and use deli pastrami, or even turkey. Turkey sandwiches (warm) are also delicious with au jus.

Bake, cover with foil, and bring to a party! Or, remember you can serve these on a board.

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced (use a mandolin)
  • 2 teaspoon fresh parsley, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

  • 6-8 slices Jack cheese slices
  • 14 ounces sliced deli roast beef, or use pastrami
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • 1 oz packet au jus gravy mix, made according to package directions
  • 3 cups water
  • Fresh chopped parsley for garnish, optional

  • Butter a 9x13 pan.
  • Take the rolls out of the package, leaving the rolls intact.
  • Next, take a large knife and slice the rolls across, so you have the tops and bottom separated.
  • Place the bottom, cut side up, into a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Top with half of the cheese slices.
  • Add the roast beef.
  • Top evenly with the sauted onions.
  • Add the remaining cheese, then add the tops of the rolls over the onions.

Make the butter mixture:

  • Take the foil off and bake an additional 5 minutes to brown the rolls.
  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the au jus, per the package directions, with the water.
  • Serve the rolls with an optional garnish of parsley and au jus on the side for dipping.
