“Dining with one’s friends and beloved family is certainly one of life’s primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal.” – Julia Child

Friends, every day we should give thanks for the companionship of friends and family!

I just had the tug at my heart today to invite friends over for dinner, to sit, eat and chat! No fuss, just be together. Its been too long…

I know that if we aren’t intentional about staying connected, we will too easily drift apart.

But I think about what gets in the way of smooth and easy invites? Three things come to mind: Busyness and cooking and our houses.

Busyness: Being busy and having something meaningful to do makes us feel important, loved, and needed. However, in some seasons, it creates total chaos in our schedules. When do you realize the impact this schedule and lifestyle has on our well-being? Do we have flexibility in our schedules to make room for people, even if it’s a last-minute, casual get-together?

Cooking: Do you think about a menu, and you just can’t put it together? Start with what you know, what is easy for you! Make the main dish, and ask your guests to bring the rest. Don’t feel like you have to do it all. People love to contribute, in fact, these days, they expect to bring a dish! (Want a couple more easy dessert recipes? Strawberry Puff Pastry Bites or Strawberry Lemon Cheesecake Parfaits.

Our homes: Get the main area picked up and one bathroom clean. Don’t take on any big projects to try to impress. Your style shows who your family is, and people are not coming into your home to compare or pick apart your decor. Focus on the table, food, and maybe a killer, signature dessert? (You can buy all these ingredients in the store, and have a delicious dessert in 15 minutes.)

Buy store-bought angel food cake. You can buy fudge sauce (I buy Trader Joe’s), or you can make your own ganache.

The day before, slice the strawberries.

Have your butter ready in the pan. Slice the angle food (or cut into large chunks). Fry for a few minutes on low heat on each side. Oh, and don’t forget the cinnamon and sugar sprinkles!

When it’s time for dessert, place a warm, buttery piece of fried angel food cake on the plate. Top with ganache (or warm fudge sauce), and spinkle with strawberry slices!

Ultimately, soul-satisfying time together with people we love, has an eternal impact!

Think of your home as a painting. Now don’t get stressed out about the decor, or whether it’s clean enough. I mean, visualize people around your table, like a Norman Rockwell photo, and the sense that it conveys into the contemporary world.

That is, if you let it. Friends, you can make it happen.

Invite. Cook. And let it all happen …
