Get your ice cream toppings ready, because this is a fun board idea, or end-of-summer dessert spread that you can set up. Perfect for Labor Day weekend? Here’s another delicious holiday dessert to serve: Frozen Banana Split Dessert.
What is a slice cream sundae?
By slicing instead of scooping ice cream, you can serve a lot of guests fast. This is what I love about this method. [see photo below]
Ingredients for Slice Cream Sundaes:
- Large container of Tillamook Chocolate Chip Mint ice cream (or your favorite flavor)
- Cup of whipping cream
- Jar of Trader Joe’s chocolate fudge sauce
- Sprinkles
- Mini Oreo cookies
How to slice ice cream with a knife
- Let a large container of ice cream thaw for five minutes on the counter while you are gathering your toppings.
- Snip down the sides with kitchen scissors.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the cylinder of your favorite ice cream flavor in half, from top to bottom.
- Next, cut the slices into half-moon slabs. With a spatula, place each slab onto a plate and let guests make their own sundae.
Or, if you’re serving your guests, add the toppings and serve right away!
Oh, and it is so important to cook with a good knife. We love this Japanese knife (above), if you’re looking for a new knife to buy. [affiliate link]
The “Yay’s” in our lives
Friends, we’re halfway through the year now. It’s time to track the YAY’s and good news of what’s happening, at least in my life.
It’s important to keep track of our “yays” and to be mindful of noting our blessings.
And also it’s so important to be happy for other people’s yay’s in our lives. Early on in our marriage, we had a few friends that hated it when good things happened to our family. Can you imagine? Sour people can be this way. Even though the hard times tend to make a bigger impressions at times, I like to focus on the small things—the rich blessings in life.
Little did I know what 2021 would bring. I have plenty of yay’s to share.
Here are a few of our recent “yays”:
- Our new book is almost out. You can preorder Big Boards for Families, here. Our daughter was the photographer for this book, and her work is stunning. Such a huge accomplishment. [You can order from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite book store.]
- We are so blessed to have a new daughter-in-law, although we have not gotten to spend time with them much (being out of the country). We look forward to 2022 for this.
- We’re so proud of our eldest son for his Nurse Corps scholarship and his recent graduation from South Dakota State University nursing program with both academic honors and his nomination for the Outstanding Student of the Year, which is awarded by classmates and faculty.
- Soon we are launching 3 new boards at The House of Hyacinth very soon. Please be checking back, or sign up for my emails.
Back to the end of summer and this great ice cream idea!
Your family and friends will love you, and your elbow (all that hard ice cream scooping), too (because it’s such a snappy way to serve the ice cream).
ENJOY!
