I’m a picture-gal–I love pictures that tell a story, the whole story, and Ree’s photography is perfect for making me smile, especially when I see Charlie always posing for the camera!
Here’s a little excerpt from Ree, summing up what the book is about. Quite honestly, it’s more than a holiday book, because most recipes could be made almost any day of the week.
There’s nothing more delicious than a holiday.
Oh, is it ever true. Whether it’s the anticipation of Christmastime or the ghoulish glee of Halloween, if I see a holiday on the horizon, I simply can’t contain my excitement. There’s just something about the traditions, the family togetherness, the resurfacing of childhood memories . . . the making of new ones. Holidays are wonderful, special, and fun . . . and they always make me happy.
And one more thing: They make me want to cook! –Ree
Bringing people together
Who doesn’t get excited for the holidays and cooking?! Bringing people together in a cozy home, and making them happy with a home-cooked meal is my favorite!
The Pioneer Woman’s Mulled Apple Cider Recipe
Starting the holidays off this week, I decided to make Ree’s Mulled Apple Cider recipe, which we’ve all been enjoying!
Have I told you how delicious my house smells? Sometimes I think it’s worth making hot cider with mulled spices, just to get the house smelling GOOD.
I even pulled out the bourbon, and thought I’d take Ree up on her idea of spiking the cider! We adapted the recipe slightly, but oh, so good!
How do you make Hot Mulled Apple Cider?
- Pour the apple cider into a large pot over medium-high heat.
- Dice up the apples and toss them into the cider.
- Place orange slices in pot.
- Also add the allspice berries, the cinnamon sticks, and the cranberries.
- Pour in the sugar and stir it around to dissolve.
- Bring the mixture to a low boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Add the brandy if using, then simmer for another 10-15 minutes. Serve warm.
Warm, mulled apple cider makes life worth living on freezing cold winter days. Warm apple cider spiked with brandy? Ditto. Times a thousand. Mmmmmmm.
Serve this in a nice mug with a piece of rum cake, then curl up by the fire, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, and work on your Christmas list.
And that’s an order! – Ree
Just in time for the holidays!
Happy hosting!

Christmas and some cookies that I only make at that time of year–fairy drops. Almond cookies and icing with crushed candy canes on top.
My favorite holiday is Christmas and my signature goody is fondant mints…..from cream and sugar…..dipped in chocolate. Technique has been passed down from my grandmother to my mother and aunt and to me.
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, but my favorite holiday recipe is Chocolate Fudge Delight, my grandma’s recipe for fudge that Mom made when we were kids, and I still make at Christmas.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday….it was always the first holiday that we would be able to have turkey dinner each year. It was always turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas…..YES!!! :)

I love Easter! Baked ham and deviled eggs are my favorite foods for Easter.
Christmas Eve is my favorite holiday. Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls are perfect on Christmas morning!
I really enjoy Thanksgiving. All the great food, and lots of wonderful left overs. That’s my kind of cooking. But, I love Ree’s books. Would love to win one.
My favorite holiday is Easter. However, my favorite recipe is stuffing for Thanksgiving because I use breakfast pork sausage and water chestnuts. The family my husband and I have Thanksgiving with every year have a basic stuffing recipe. My girlfriend hates sage and you know my stuffing has sage. Yum!
My favorite holiday is Christmas, and one of my signature recipes for Christmas is Shortbread Cookies. Full of butter, and oh so good!
Christmas Eve is my favorite holiday. I love the bright colored lights of Christmas, spending time with family and eating Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning!
I love Christmas and making cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning. :)
Hi Jamie, your Raspberry Pound Cake sounds good, would you mind sharing the recipe with me? Thank You
Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday
I love Christmas! My favorite recipes, the ones I make every year regardless, are spiced ginger cookies, my mom’s Christmas Nut balls, and prime rib. Lots of other recipes have come and gone, but these have been around for over 28 years!
Thanksgiving is my favorite and I am always in charge of the dressing. We make regular and oyster dressing with my family. When it’s just my husband and me, I make dressing with hazelnuts & apples. He loves it.
My favorite “holiday” is my Wedding Anniversary (aka hubby’s birthday).
My favorite holiday – hands down – is Christmas. I make mashed potatoes, turkey, and killer prime rib, – and turkey soup from the fabulous turkey carcass (even shamelessly asking for other carcasses from work potlucks). That soup often is of such volume that it’s in two 10 qt. pots, and gets parceled out into multiple ZipLoc or Glad containers and delivered to family members and friends!
Christmas is my favorite by far! I love everything about it! As for the recipe, either Chocolate Cherry Chiparoons, or my Grandma’s molasses cookies! Yummy!
I followed you on pinterst, twitter and liked your facebook page!
Thanksgiving…..love the stuffing!
