Friends, this week we are hosting a small gathering, and will serve a small charcuterie board. Yes, I love to make my epic charcuterie board for large parties, but for a small dinner party, a smaller one is perfect.

Recently my friend Lori (RecipeGirl) and I were in Utah at a YouTube retreat (VidRetreat), learning more about how to make videos. It was a fun weekend, hosted by our friend Ashlee, from Ashlee Marie (who specializes in baking). Ashlee is the YouTube queen, and you can find her here on You Tube!

We took the footage and made a longer video for you to watch. Of course we had fun along the way, and honestly, we did not know that we’d be actually posting a video. So enjoy … we had a few good laughs. HA.

We said a few awkward things, but it all worked out. HA

And we created this beautiful board that is very do-able for everyone to make!

Festive - How to Charcuterie!

Watch the video and we’ll show you “how to charcuterie” for the holidays!

Always start with a center star dish, which in this case we made an easy brie for the middle of the board.

Think holiday … what is festive and in season? Grapes and pomegranates and fig jam!

Add your favorite meats and cheese.

Don’t forget the nuts – pistachios and marcona almonds!

Entertaining during the holidays

The holiday festivities have begun in our home and I’m very excited.

For me personally, the more I have people into my home, connecting with friends and family, the happier I am.

But I’m reminded that not everyone feels the same way that I do! I recently heard from a friend who follows me on Instagram: “We live in a very social community, and being a self-diagnosed introvert, entertaining scares me a little. Once everybody is here, I’m ok. I have to start early ..I cant just whip stuff up..that’s why your blog is terrific..helps me with ideas!”

Serving a charcuterie breaks the ice

Making a smaller charcuterie board is a way to break the ice. Everyone loves to take a bite when they walk in the door, and it stimulates conversation.

Yes, entertaining is a lot of work, but there is a sense of fulfillment inside when I’m preparing, giving out, and loving the people in my life.

I think most women who practice hospitality are pretty content and happy and satisfied, especially when you have good boundaries–you do not overdo, you are organized, you take care of yourself first, before giving out to others–and you give your very best!

If you’re struggling with contentment, I wrote a post a few years back that may help you get a healthy perspective this holiday season! It’s about how to find contentment (a story about contentment).

I read a study that Good Housekeeping shared: The more often women have dinner with their families, the more satisfied they are overall. And those who see friends and entertain at least every few months are more content in general.
