Lavender Lemon Banana Bread Recipe

Food is a way to show love to others! So how about sharing a loaf of this Lavender Lemon Banana Bread Recipe with a neighbor or someone you know very little about this week?

I also have a short hospitality story to tell today, one that makes me smile. If you haven’t jumped onto the Beyond Kindness tour that my friend Emily is on, virtually, then check this out.

Her cousins, Jack and Joanne, are traveling the 48 states, on a kindness mission, leading up to November 13th for World Kindness Day.

I love the challenge to do something, talk to someone we do not know, invite someone over for dinner who is different than us, reach out, be kind, and love … on purpose.

My story? After living in our area for over one year, I met a new neighbor the other day, when I brought him some baked goods.

One year later? Honestly, we felt like our neighbors didn’t like us, or were not interested in us. How many of us make assumptions like this?

I tried several times bringing baked goods to their home. But they were never home.

This time I hit the jackpot. I not only visited with our neighbor for a lengthy time, he showed me their home, talked about their kids, and guess what? We are both fellow chocolate lovers.

This recipe is a yummy one, Lavender Lemon Banana Bread Recipe, but I think next time I will be sharing chocolate with Don. (But I will admit, I love this Sour Cream Banana Bread!)

We talked as a family and we plan to have their family over to share a meal with us soon.

Love on purpose.

We care about our neighbors and can’t wait to get to know them more.

Yes, even one year later.

  1. You can use lavender seeds – sparingly is best. I blitzed them for a moment in a chopper first (though it didn’t do much). I added about 1-2 teaspoons’-worth. When I asked my husband to guess the mystery ingredient he suggested washing-up liquid, but he did then ask for a second slice, so he can’t have found it offensive!

Oh, and I cut the sugar by about half – this amount seemed way too much to me and it was fine as I did it.

  2. Lavender extract is made like vanilla extract – vodka and lavender, and steep for a couple of weeks in it. I went into our natural food grocer and the wellness department said absolutely do NOT use lavender essential oil instead of extract. Some e-oils are okay to use in foods, some are not, this one he said is not unfortunately. I did google it and see that Sur La Table stores sell it and you can get it online via Amazon and Sur La Table as well.

  3. Where to find lavender extract? Thanks!

  4. This recipe looks delicious!! There’s nothing like a good homemade bread to fill me with happiness hahah Thanks for sharing!

  6. Yum! It can be so easy to get in a rut of not meeting neighbors. Our neighbors are all spread out since most are on at least 1 acre, and many work, or we just don’t see them that often. This bread sounds good. Not sure my hubby would like it, but I think I would.
