Mother’s Day Charcuterie Board
Charcuterie boards are still all the rage, and they’re a great way to enjoy time with friends and family. They’re perfect for grazing and nibbling, and both kids and adults love them.
They don’t have to be expensive to make, either. See all my tips below for making this Mother’s Day Charcuterie Board an affordable pick that everyone will love – especially Mom!
What’s a charcuterie board?
Traditionally, charcuterie boards are flat platters filled with cured meats, cheeses, nuts and dried fruit, and condiments. However, today’s charcuterie boards can take any shape or form and can be filled with any number of different kinds of ingredients!
Why I love this Mother’s Day Charcuterie Board
- Heavy on the fruit, it’s light, fresh, colorful and delicious.
- You don’t have to use expensive meats and cheeses so it can be an affordable option.
- The whole family can get in on making it and surprise Mom on her special day!
Gather these ingredients
- Crackers
- Salami slices – About the same size as the crackers.
- Mixed cheese – Sliced thin for topping the crackers.
- Mandarin oranges – Canned; drained.
- Strawberries – Sliced.
- Kiwi – Sliced.
- Dried cherries – Or cranberries.
- Banana – Sliced
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Grapes – Purple and green.
- Melon – Honeydew and cantaloupe; thinly sliced.
- Canned pineapple chunks – Drained.
For the dip
- Heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla extract – Pure or artificial vanilla extract.
You’ll also need
- A charcuterie board to hold all these goodies! I love the 20-inch round board for this project. The lip on it ensures nothing falls off if you move it, and it’s food safe so you can feast without fear! (See options below!)
How to make a Mother’s Day Charcuterie Board
- Make the fruit dip by whipping the cream until stiff peaks form. Whip in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Transfer it to a small bowl and add it to the center of the board. If you want to make a cream cheese fruit dip, it’s easy, too!
- Layer the round crackers around the outside of the board and top them with a piece of salami and a triangle of cheese.
- Make flowers with pineapple chunks and mandarin oranges.
- Arrange the remaining fruit around the board, filling in the gaps.
Tips & substitutions
- Use a large enough board to hold all the goodies. My 20-inch board is perfect for this Mother’s Day board.
- Mix and match the meats – salami, summer sausage, turkey, ham, and roast beef all work well. See what’s on sale at your deli counter.
- Switch up the cheeses – cheddar, colby, gouda, and Jack cheeses are all affordable and easy to slice. Get them pre-sliced to save time.
- Look for good-quality fruits and berries. Don’t wash them until just before adding them to the board so they stay fresh longer.
- Soak the banana slices in lemon water first so they don’t turn brown.
- You can make this board up to 1-2 hours in advance but keep the whipped cream dip in the fridge to keep it chilled and fresh.
Serving suggestions
I love serving this Mother’s Day Charcuterie Board with fresh mimosas and virgin mimosas for the kids, and other than that, you don’t need much! You could also serve the Moms in your life a cold glass of cold raspberry lemonade or whatever juice you have on hand. You don’t need much else because everything you need for a tasty meal is on the board!
Storage
Store any leftovers in the fridge. Wrap the meat and cheese separately from the fruit. The fruit will keep for 2-3 days, and any leftover meat and cheese will keep for up to a week.
