My husband and I recently went back “home” for a day for business, and to pick up a new painting that our friend made for us. So beautiful is the painting, but also the time we had with my Dad and his wife Ginny.

It’s not hung yet, but I think we found the perfect place for this special piece of art. Our very dear friend made this for us, and we will cherish it forever.

Ginny actually made a caprese salad from her little garden, and it reminded me of this Summer Fruit Caprese Salad Recipe, that we took to our friends’ house for dinner earlier this week.

Let’s back up….going home can be nostalgic and wonderful. This time we even drove by our old house, a place where so many memories were created. A place where hospitality flowed, and we enjoyed so many gatherings.

Summer Fruit Salad

For this week, gather your favorite summer flavors, like berries and cherries and apricots and peaches.

Don’t forget the heirloom tomatoes.

And Oregon berries!

Always fresh basil.

And a good quality mozzarella cheese (I buy these Galbani Fresh Mozzarella marinated balls from Costco in a 40 ounce container).

I always think of “home” when I enjoy summer produce.

It was always a staple on our table in the summertime, deconstructed, sliced, and devoured.

This time, combine it all together for the best summer salad!

ENJOY!

Where to buy balsamic glaze? The cheapest way is to buy a pack of 6 (maybe share with a friends). We use it a LOT, so I’m happy to keep to many bottles on hand, plus I’ve given as “hostess gifts” many times. Because people say, where did you get the glaze? It’s so good!

PS. I wrote this post last week. Since then, we’ve hung the painting! Be still my heart!

  1. This looks absolutely divine. But left to myself I’d pick out all the berries and mozzarella and leave the rest for someone else. LOL! As hard as I try to like tomatoes and peaches, I just can’t seem to do it.
