There’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, and that is I’m not a perfect housekeeper!
My house is often messy and cluttery, especially when I have a lot going on. I can only handle it for so long, and then I get in and clean and declutter. But with unannounced company, my the state of my house has actually hurt my pride.
I think we’ve all struggled with this “perfectionism” issue at different times.
Hospitality scenerios:
When last minute guests have arrived, or we’ve extended a spontaneous invite, sometimes I just don’t feel “ready.”
I’ve grown now over the years, with a different attitude, challenging myself to put people before perfection. This has actually humbled me.
I’ve learned to overlook a few things that weren’t “perfect” and tell myself “it doesn’t matter.” And then move on and enjoy the people in my home.
What have I learned?
Ready or not, invite people in!
Happy Spring, Friends!

I’m not a great housekeeper as gardening is more important, BUT at the same time not comfortable if company comes unexpected (even family) and the house is messy or cluttered.
We have some friends that pop over 2 or 3 times a month. Sometimes they stay for hours, sometimes only a few minutes. Sometimes it starts with just the husband and son, then maybe one of the daughters stops by and then the mom. One time I opened the door and it was their nephew! That has really helped me get used to not having a perfect house. I love these friends like my family. At the same time, I have had parties (usually just family) where I will tell certain neat freaks that they can only use particular restrooms because that was all I had time to clean. Life is too short to not enjoy the people in your life. Sandy, thanks for all of your inspiration and ideas!
Thanks for sharing your story, Clare! I’m sure it’s encouraging to others as well!
