What was planned for 6 miles ended up being 10.6 miles. It’s true the badlands are not well marked, with very few signs. (Above, my friend Jenny and her daughter, Emily, and me. Below, eating lunch in the Badlands!)

Mmmm, the scent of the junipers with the branches full of blue berries. All you need to do is pluck them and split them open for the most arromatic experience.

The downfall of a large group is you get to talking and walking and not really paying attention. The benefit to a large group is it’s not as scary if you realize you may not know where you are. Good news: My husband has a “Hiking Project” app on his phone.

We think Alder retrieved the ball well over 200 times. Did he sleep well that night? Indeed!
