Epic Clam Chowder Dinner Board
This recipe is great for my Chowder Dinner Board, but you can always buy store bought, too. So many have asked about the braiser in the middle of this board. It’s lightweight and fits perfectly!
LeCreuset 5-quart stainless steel braiser
Guys, I’m using my favorite 5-quart Stainless Steel Braiser that is lightweight and fits beautifully on these big boards. It’s shallow enough to not overpower the board. It comes with a lid, so you can serve the food hot (place a pothoolder down first). You can buy this LeCreuset 5-quart Stainless Steel Braiser [affiliate link] and I think you’ll love it!
Friday is Fish Friday
Today I’ve made a Big Board that is perfect for a Friday night. (Do you eat fish on Fridays?)
Enjoy this Epic Clam Chowder Dinner Board!
You have two options. If you have time, make your own clam chowder.
I recommend my recipe, Best Clam Chowder. [Read the 214 comments if you are doubtful]. :) You can also try my Corn Salmon Chowder or my friend RecipeGirl’s Salmon Chowder. I also have a good recipe on the blog: Coconut Milk Tomato Mixed Seafood Soup.
Just this week I posted a brand new Best Seafood Chowder Recipe!
Or, if you are short on time, BUY IT. Find a good quality at the grocery store, and that works, too!
Yes, your people don’t need to know your entertaining secrets or shortcuts.
It’s not about you–It’s all abou them
I wish I could stamp this message on everyone’s email (and etch it in your minds):
Having people into your home is not about you. It’s all about them. You are giving of yourself, taking the time and resources to cook and nourish and provide a space for people to gather in. These moments of eating together are all about them. Not about you, as the hostess.
Stamp that in your mind. Copy it onto your screen or in your heart.
Dinner boards are a great way to show love and nourishment.

Everyone asks about these mini appetizer and dessert tasting cups, filled with shrimp cocktail.
Add a mini fork to each cup–the final touch!
Garnish the board with fresh parsley!
Secret to keeping the soup hot?
Prepare the board ahead of time, with everything, but leave room for the soup in the middle.
I place a potholder in the middle of the board.
Right before serving, I add the hot pot of soup.
Keep the lid on until you’re ready to dig in. Set out the bowls, spoons, and napkins!
So easy!
I was standing at the head of the table, hearing my people talking about what was going on in their lives.
It warmed my heart. So much, that I wanted to copy and paste that feeling of so much love around a big board of food, and etch it right onto my heart.
Copy and paste … when we hear or feel or see something that changes us, we need to figure out a way to remember it!
Happy hosting!

Ingredients
Instructions
- On a large prepared board, place the empty pot that you will be cooking the soup in. Then arrange the bread around that pan.
- Remove the pan and cook the soup. This allows you to have the right amount of space when ready to serve the hot soup.
- In a large bowl, place the rinsed and drained (very well) baby shrimp. Add the cocktail sauce and lightly stir.
- Into small cups, pour the shrimp cocktail. Add a mini fork, and garnish with fresh parsley. Place 8 cups on either side of the board.
- In the open areas, arrange the crackers, and fill 2 small bowls with bacon and butter.
- Add utensils, like mini forks, tongs, a knife for butter, and a spoon for the soup.
- Place the hot soup on the hot pad (keep lid on). Remove the lid right before serving.
- Optional to toast the bread right before serving, too.
Lovely ideas for bringing happiness to friends and family.
I wish you sold the big board as deep as the boards you show.
Those boards have not been available for 3-4 years, which is why we came out with our own line. Ours have a raised edge, really not that much different. Plus our baords are FOOD SAFE (the other was not). Thanks! :)
Can you tell me where the pot holding the chowder came from?
LeCreuset :)
It looks wonderful – just how and when do you eat it all? Do you eat the shrimp cocktail first (then the chowder would get cold) or do you eat everything about the same time. And do you set this board in the middle of the table or is it a “sit around the family room” type of meal?
There are so many ways. If you serve it hot in the middle, keep the lid on the soup until you’re ready to serve! :) Or serve it all at once. Guests can dish up, grab their shrimp cocktail, and DIG IN :)
What size Le Creuset braiser is that, Sandy? Thanks!

Love this! The pot with the chowder details please. Thank you
Wow! This dinner board looks amazing, Sandy! I have no boards with a lip and I absolutely agree with you – the lip is pretty important for a mess-free entertaining :).
What about a Jambalaya and Cornbread Board
Great idea! :)
