The BEST Epic Clam Chowder Dinner Board

It’s not about you–It’s all abou them

I wish I could stamp this message on everyone’s email (and etch it in your minds):

Having people into your home is not about you. It’s all about them. You are giving of yourself, taking the time and resources to cook and nourish and provide a space for people to gather in. These moments of eating together are all about them. Not about you, as the hostess.

Stamp that in your mind. Copy it onto your screen or in your heart.

Dinner boards are a great way to show love and nourishment.

All about the board!

28-inch Charcuterie Board

Friends, here are the boards that I LOVE. A “lip” is the secret to the best charcuterie or dinner board, because the food does not fall off. [This post has affiliate links. Every purchase from these links supports RE at no extra cost to you. Thank you!]

Rememember it says it is “not food safe,” so you need to prepare the board by either laying down parchment paper under the food, or you can “season” it like we did.

Here are a few other (affiliate) options:

Courtland Wooden Lazy Susan – 18-inch round. Buy >> HERE

LAZY SUSAN is a board that spins. It does NOT have a lip, but it’s cool for the center of the table.

Here’s an 18-inch wine barrel wood board or a 24-inch hammered large round tray or a 26-inch stainless steel serving platter that you may also like! Check out the weight on these boards.

How to season a Charcuterie Board

If a wood board says it “not food safe,” you can lightly sand it down with sand paper, and rub down with beeswax and mineral oil.

We used this butcher block and cutting board oil conditioner after we lightly sanded the board down.

Or, lay down parchment paper! Easy peasy!

Everyone asks about these Canary & King mini appetizer and dessert tasting cups, filled with shrimp cocktail.

Add a mini fork to each cup–the final touch!

Garnish the board with fresh parsley!

Secret to keeping the soup hot?

Prepare the board ahead of time, with everything, but leave room for the soup in the middle.

I place a potholder in the middle of the board.

Right before serving, I add the hot pot of soup.

DELISH Epic Clam Chowder Dinner Board

Keep the lid on until you’re ready to dig in. Set out the bowls, spoons, and napkins!

So easy!

I was standing at the head of the table, hearing my people talking about what was going on in their lives.

It warmed my heart. So much, that I wanted to copy and paste that feeling of so much love around a big board of food, and etch it right onto my heart.

Copy and paste … when we hear or feel or see something that changes us, we need to figure out a way to remember it!

Happy hosting!

Epic Clam Chowder Dinner Board

  • 3 24 oz. containers of clam chowder, or make your own
  • 2 pounds baby shrimp, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup cocktail sauce
  • 2 13 oz. loaves fresh bread, sliced
  • 2 5 oz. packages of crackers, your favorite kind served with clam chowder
  • 8 oz. bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • Parsley for garnish

  • On a large prepared board, place the empty pot that you will be cooking the soup in. Then arrange the bread around that pan.
  • Remove the pan and cook the soup. This allows you to have the right amount of space when ready to serve the hot soup.
  • In a large bowl, place the rinsed and drained (very well) baby shrimp. Add the cocktail sauce and lightly stir.
  • Into small cups, pour the shrimp cocktail. Add a mini fork, and garnish with fresh parsley. Place 8 cups on either side of the board.
  • In the open areas, arrange the crackers, and fill 2 small bowls with bacon and butter.
  • Add utensils, like mini forks, tongs, a knife for butter, and a spoon for the soup.
  • Place the hot soup on the hot pad (keep lid on). Remove the lid right before serving.
  • Optional to toast the bread right before serving, too.
