These little Prosciutto Caprese Bites are a delicious appetizer for spring or summer. You can serve the deconstructed ingredients (mozzarella cheese, Prosciutto, tomatoes, fresh basil and crackers) on a board or make a beautiful presentation by stacking 2 pedistal cake stands. The crackers (or crostini) can be arranged at the basil, and these bites are delicious served with balsamic glaze.

Our recent visit to France, we really fell in love with prosciutto, and then created this Croque Monsieur Breakfast Casserole, which we love!

What are Prosciutto Caprese Bites?

Caprese means “from Capri” somewhere near the Gulf of Naples, and commonly means “Insalata Caparese” which is a popular Italian salad, usually with tomato slices, basil, and seasoned with salt and pepper. For this Prosciutto Caprese Bites, we took the flavors of a Caprese salad to make these little delicious bites for a tasty appetizer.

Prosciutto Caprese ingredients

We love these little bites for spring holidays, like Easter, Mother’s Day, the first day of summer, Father’s Day, and even Fourth of July. It’s optional to add flowers, edible flowers, or even dried flowers if you are entertaining and making a pretty spread. If you love pineapple, give our Pineapple Prosciutto Crostini bites a try!

Serve with grilled chicken, Deviled Egg Salad with Pasta, herb bread, and a crunchy green salad!

Sandy’s tips and substitutions:

  • In place of the crackers, you can serve crostini. How do you make crostini?
  • Optional to cut the mozzarella cheese balls in half, and also the cherry tomatoes in half, for smaller bites.
  • Optional to make smaller “balls” of the prosciutto, by tearing off small pieces.
  • Crackers: We love to use Lesley Stowe crackers, too, because they are sturdy. You want a sturdy cracker that does not crumble when you take a bite.
  • Make it Gluten-Free: Set out gluten-free crackers.
  • Use edible flowers found in the grocery store!
