But first, I’ve been making this pumpkin pie recipe for over twenty years, and today I’m not only sharing the recipe, I’m sharing the details of my Home Depot Friendsgiving Dinner party!
The Pumpkin Pie Squares Recipe is truly a family favorite, and a must-have on our Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving Day menu. The crust is out of this world, and using some of our favorite appliances (list below), it comes together so easily!
Set the table
In our home, we have one great room that makes up the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. Our dining area has been very active, with people coming together for some of the funnest holidays and most special dinners. We decided this year to get a new table, one less “chunky” and more modern, lighter to move, and easier to put chairs around.
I’m so excited to show you today our new table and chairs!
- Urban Woodcraft Retro 78 inch Multi-Color Teak Dining Table!
- Home Decorators Collection Ivers Black Metal Upholstered Dining Chairs with Antique Brown Seats!
We love our new modern, low-line mango wood table, and 8 retro chairs.
Here is a little sneak peak at the final result of our dining room!
I just love how it turned out, so much!

Now for the best part of the meal … PUMPKIN PIE!
We love the pecan and oats crust, and our secret ingredient? Cardamom.
Mix it all together in the Cuisinart 2-Speed Brushed Black Stainless Steel Food Processor, pour in the batter, and bake!
The dimensions of this Chicago Metallic Commercial II True Jelly Roll Pan is 15.5″ x 10″, and the key is that it is 1 inch deep.
Don’t forget the whipped cream! [LOVE our new KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5 Qt. 10-Speed Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, in a sorbet color!]
Happy Friendsgiving and Happy Hosting!

Pumpkin Pie Squares Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup quick or old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup pecans, chopped
- 2/3 cup butter, melted
- 4 eggs
- 2 cans solid pack pumpkin or 1 large can
- 2 cans sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
Whipping cream
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a food processor, pulse the pecans into small pieces. Add in the flour, oats, and brown sugar and pulse more until combined.
- Melt the butter and drizzle into the mixture; pulse until combined (will be like dough). Press flat onto the bottom of a 15x10 bar pan. Bake 15 minutes at 350.
- While you are waiting for the crust to bake, in a stand mixer, beat the eggs for 1 minute. Then add in the pumpkin, condensed milk, spices and salt.
- Mix together until completely smooth.
- Once the crust is out of the oven, pour the pumpkin pie mixture over the crust.
- Bake at 350 degrees 35-40 minutes or until filling is set. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
- Cut into squares and serve with fresh whipped cream.
TO MAKE THE CREAM:
- Whip 2 cups of heavy whipping cream until thick. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 1/4 cup powdered sugar.

Can you substitute the nuts in the crust? I have two family members that are allergic to all nuts.
I have not tried this, but you could maybe try toasted sunflower or pumpkin seeds (toasted and ground)?
How do you make this without pecans?? Very allergic to pecans.
Can you eat with other nuts? I’d try walnuts!
Holy buckets, Sandy, these are amazing! Something about the crust just makes them addicting. I subbed gluten-free flour and no one was the wiser. I now have an unsolicited request to bake them for an upcoming fund-raiser. Huge hit! :)
