Strawberry Pie Filling Dessert
This Strawberry Pie Filling Dessert is incredibly easy to make and only requires 4 ingredients! It’s a great no fuss dessert to make for any gathering, holiday, and it’s quite tasty served with vanilla ice cream. I will walk you right through making this easy strawberry dessert with a couple cans of strawberry pie filling. You’ll have dessert ready in about an hour!

I love a dessert that comes together quickly, with easy ingredients stocked in my pantry! For this dessert, which is like a dump cake recipe, I keep a couple cans of strawberry pie filling and a cake mix in my pantry at all times. You never know when you’re going to have last-minute company, right?
I always say that this is a simple foolproof dessert for any occasion, and more of a cobbler than a cake, actually. This is a classic “dump and bake” dessert. As long as the ingredients are evenly distributed, the recipe will pretty much be a no-fail recipe. Even if you slightly over or under bake the dessert it will still be tasty. These “dump cake” desserts have been around for many years. My mom used to make what it seemed like every option there was!

Ingredients needed for making Strawberry Pie Filling Dessert
- Strawberry pie filling: these cans are usually on the baking aisle of the grocery store
White cake mix: you can also use yellow or chocolate or strawberry cake mix - Butter
- Walnuts: the dessert is better if you toast them first
- Vanilla ice cream (or whipped cream) for serving

We think this is the best strawberry pie filling dessert around! Not only is it so easy, even kids can make this. So for kids starting off in the kitchen – give them this dessert to make (and succeed!)

In this recipe, you’re going to prepare a 9×13 cake pan. This means spray with cooking spray! You do not want the dessert to stick to the edges and bottom after it bakes.
Next step is to spread the strawberry filling in the dish. Easy!

In a mixing bowl, open the cake mix and pour into the bowl. Melt the butter and pour it onto the cake mix. Toast the nuts (only if you want to), and chop; add to the bowl. Mix it all together until it’s nice and crumbly.
Last step is to sprinkle the crumbs on the strawberry pie filling. And bake!

How to toast walnuts
- Place walnuts in a dry skillet. (Don’t add oil!)
- Toast over medium heat until the walnuts are one shade darker than originally were (they will give a toasty smell).
- Allow to cool – and then chop to add to the dessert!

Tips and substitutions:
- Swap white cake mix for yellow, chocolate or even strawberry cake mix if you prefer! There are quite a few ways to change things up when making this strawberry cobbler style dessert recipes, like our Best Strawberry Cobbler or Strawberry Galette.
- Another way to make a chocolate strawberry dump cake is to add a layer of fudge sauce over the strawberry pie filling! You’ve got to try this!
- You can add some crushed pineapple to jazz things up.
- Use the cold butter method, as I did in Chocolate Dump Cake (we grated the cold butter!)
- Of course you can swap out the walnuts for your favorite nuts, like almonds, pecans, or hazelnuts.

Serving a strawberry pie dessert
- Here’s a tip I like to always share with this recipe. If you are bringing this dessert to a party or potluck, prepare it at home, and bake it when you get there! People LOVE this dessert coming hot out of the oven where the ice cream melts right into the strawberry pie filling, and you swirl it all together. Every bite is amazing.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- A good menu for a weeknight meal when you are pinched for time is our Coconut Milk Chicken Thighs, easy Green Beans with Bacon and Onions, and this amazing dessert.
- For a lighter meal, serve our Whole30 Chicken Soup, Sweet Potato Fritters, and this dessert – yum!

How do you store a crumble dessert?
Store on the counter for up to 5 days! We cover with foil, but plastic wrap works, too. Reheat in the oven, or individual servings in the microwave. It’s just as good as coming hot out of the oven!
