Tortellini Sausage Skewers Appetizer - Charcuterie

There’s something about the shorter days, the colder nights, that draw us inside toward warmth and conversation … and a delicious menu for dinner! Like serving appetizers for dinner, with this delicious Tortellini Sausage Skewers Appetizer recipe!

Fall is the time for new routines, schedules, and even new beginnings! A great time to get dinner dates on the calendar, and be intentional with our hosting.

It’s intentional, because for me, not one dinner party ever “goes to waste.” Whether thinking ahead and planning an event, or last minute hosting, it’s always about the people. (Photo cred: Two Peas and Their Pod.)

Hosting is a way that we can love others.

Food is love

Food is love, but the actual act of serving and making others feel warm and welcome, wherever you are, is what I love.

Having recently spent 3 days with some of my best blogging friends here at Sunriver Resort, the first night they came to my house for dinner! A quick jaunt up to Cardinal’s Landing for a peek at the view and sunset before appetizers (thank you Noble Pig, for the delicious wine!).

Noble Pig Winery was established in 2008 by my friend, and winemaker, Cathy Pollack. Check out her winey, here.

We enjoyed appetizers on the back deck, and then dinner on the front deck. Did we luck out with perfect weather or what? Yes, we did.

For this appetizer (or meal), you can buy everything you need for this amazing appetizer at DeLallo Foods entertaining line (with fun, new tailgate ideas). My friend Kristin and daughter Abby helped put it together (BIG job!).

We combined various cheeses with their dried nuts, crackers, and this Tortellini Sausage Skewers Appetizer recipe!

Oh, and the GIANT charcuterie board? I bought it at Pier 1 here in Bend, Oregon. And YES! We lined the tray with parchment paper before putting food on it. :)

Here’s another delicious Meat Cheese Charcuterie Board that I made earlier this year (with DeLallo Foods).

Perfect weather, great friends, a tiny house with a lot of people.

It just goes to show that you don’t need a big house to entertain.

Come up with a simple plan, and run with it.

Buy extra dishes if you need to (Dollar Store or thrift stores), and throw some meat on the grill. (More details this tablescape, HERE. Don’t you just love these Teal Birch Tree salad plates?)

Make a fabulous appetizer.

You’re set!

Twinkle Lights Shining in Dark

Eating together is a time where we can all connect and share our stories! It’s such an intimate act.

This quote from Brene’ Brown is about how important it is to share ourselves (truly being present and real–our fears, hopes, struggles, and joy), and to create connection with one another.

There’s something magical about the idea of twinkle lights shining in dark and difficult places. The lights are small, and a single light is not very special, but an entire strand of sparkling lights is sheer beauty. It’s the connectivity that makes them beautiful. When it comes to vulnerability, connectivity means sharing our stories with people who have earned the right to hear them…” -Brene Brown, Daring Greatly

Friends, I like to think about every time we share our table, we are sparking an amazing connection.

And then, that spark takes off from there …

  3. Sandy,

Your comment, “Food is love, but the actual act of serving and making others feel warm and welcome, wherever you are, is what I love.” just really resinated with me. This is the exact reason I love having people over or making something special to eat for my family. It’s how I show my love. The “ohhhhs and awwwws” and the “Oh! This is delicious!” just fills my heart with joy. I’m in love with your message! I am currently creating my own blog, going “live” this weekend (so nervous!), and I look at you for inspiration. You truly have a beautiful blog with an even more beautiful message!

Thank you for sharing your life with us,

  4. Wow! Love this post — read about your get together over on Foodie Crush. I am from Bend, and my husband and I are hoping to move to Sunriver next summer (we have been living in Malaysia for 8 years — now our son just turned 2 and I want him to be closer to family). We always spend a few days out in Sunriver relaxing when we are home visiting my family, and it just seems like a great spot for us since we work remotely and don’t have to drive into town every day for work. And have the flexibility to spend months in the tropics in the dead of winter :) Beautiful board!

    • Michelle, look me up when you come back over to Bend! Yes, living by family is awesome, esp. when the kids are little! :) Welcome to RE!

  5. Everything about this was gorgeous, warm and perfect entertaining. I can’t wait to make one of those big, round boards for my own party. I had no idea that Delallo had so many awesome things!! Thank you for such a fabulous dinner XOXO

  10. Sandy, you are so inspiring!❤️

  11. I love, love, love this!  I really love the tray.  I looked on the Pier One website and the tray’s description says not for food use.  Did you line the tray to make it ok?  Thanks for all the great ideas!
