Get your kids in the kitchen!

This recipe is so EASY for kids to make, in that they can use their own creativity by adding different flavors and decorations. Years ago, my daughter, Abby, and I had to remind ourselves that how they turn out is not about perfection. I didn’t stand over her to see if they turned out perfectly round, or if they were dipped exactly right. She had success in making them her own (even though it got a little messy)!

How do you make truffles?

To make them all you do is stir together finely crushed Oreo crumbs, cream cheese, and vanilla extract until combined, then use a small cookie scoop to scoop balls of the mixture and freeze until firm, for 15 minutes. Once firm, you dip the balls into melted chocolate and let them harden.

Bam! That’s it!

Decorate as you please!

They make a wonderful last-minute holiday dessert, a special occasion dessert, or homemade gift for a friend.

Tips for success

  • Make sure your Oreo centers are frozen hard before dipping in almond bark.
  • Do not skip the step where you freeze the balls. If you start dipping immediately, the texture of the inside will not be right.
  • We used milk chocolate, but if you want to use vanilla almond bark, melt it in small batches. Sometimes they can bleed black crumbs into the bark.
  • To make them look pretty and professional, after dipping, go back and drizzle more almond bark on top.

How to Easily Dip Truffles

To easily coat truffles with the melted chocolate, do this in batches. Use 2 forks to roll truffles in chocolate until evenly coated. Remove truffles with forks, letting excess chocolate drip back into bowl. Place truffles on the prepared baking sheet.

How long do Oreo Truffles last in the fridge?

Store in tightly covered container in refrigerator 3-4 weeks in the fridge.
You can store them 2 months in the freezer (covered).

How do you keep the Oreo balls from cracking?

As mentioned above, the truffles need to be frozen briefly (15 minutes) before dipping. I’ve found that if you freeze them much longer than that the chocolate tends to crack and break away from the Oreo ball.

Do I need to refrigerate Oreo Truffles?

I would refrigerate since you are using cream cheese. Mainly for food safety, but also because they soften as they sit out at room temperature. They will last in the refrigerator wrapped tightly for 3-4 weeks.

Decorate and devour! Or package them up and give them away!

ENJOY!
