Ham Holiday Dinner Board
Just think small ham dinner for this board, with all the fixings! Reallly, this is perfect for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and even Easter! We love this long board served with our favorite ham and dinner sides and salad. It’s the perfect board for 4-6 dinner guests.
Why I love this recipe
- What I love about this board is that you can use leftovers, or if you’re at the market and have a good deli (like Market of Choice), pick up a few sides.
- Pick up a small honey baked ham (already sliced), or grab one of our recipes to cook your own ham.
- It’s beautiful for any holiday.
- Especially during this year of change, for many of us, preparing something special takes the mundane away from dinnertime, and replaces it with something beautiful, wholesome, and fun!
Mix and match homemade and storebought foods
We made the mashed potatoes, blanched green beans, cranberry sauce, and my mom’s cranberry salad! But I bought the kale salad at the store!
See how you can mix and match a board to make some food from scratch, and some store-bought? And of course those butter rollls were to die for!
Gather these ingredients
Think leftovers, or smaller portions for this board!
- Ham, pre-cooked & sliced: we recommend a honey baked ham
- Mashed potatoes
- Cranberry salad (make my mom’s Fresh Cranberry Grape Salad)
- Kale salad (try Esther’s Kale Salad)
- Cranberry sauce
- Dinner rolls + cheese
- Cookies (lemon ginger spice that I boought from Newport Avenue Market here in Bend, OR) – or what do you have if your freezer?
- Fench green beans
- Carrot and celery sticks + olives + spicy-sweet peppers + pickles
- Ranch dressing
- Red and green grapes
- Pears + clementine oranges + red apple
- Rosemary and pomegranate seeds for garnish
How do you make a ham dinner board?
- On a large board, place 6 nesting boards filled with mashed potatoes, 2 with kale salad, cranberry salad, cranberry sauce, and ranch dressing.
- Place the ham on on end and rolls and cheese slices on the other. Fill in the inner areas with crudite (carrot and celery sticks) around the ranch dressing.
- Add black olives, snack pickles, and spicy sweet peppers on top.
- Next, add grapes, cookies, and green beans (hot, garnished with pomegranate seeds).
- Add 2 pears (garnish, but you can slice and eat), a sliced apple, and 2 tangerines.
- Garnish with fresh rosemary!
Tips and substitutions:
- Instead of a big huge ham, we enjoyed a smaller one, with other delicious foods to make a ham and cheese roll (so good, with melted cheese), or not!
- Buy a pre-cooked ham, and all you have to worry about are the sides, while it’s heating up in the oven! Or grab our easy holiday crock pot ham, that you can slice and serve, or Coca Cola Ham.
- Add your favorite side dishes.
- You can even add dessert (ginger cookies) to the board to make it a complete dinner.

Enjoying the table experience
Here are a few tips on slowing down and enjoying the table experience …
- Don’t overcomplicate. If you’re planning a small dinner, keep it simple! Make the food ahead of time, and reheat for a small board.
- Get off social media. Ask everyone around the table to put their phones away.
- Relish in the joys. Ask a lot of questions, get to know the people who are sitting around you. Look into their eyes, look for joys, and pains, and listen. Be present.
My wish is to be present. It takes discipline to engage … right then and there!
Oh, and to eat a lot of butter rolls with ham and cheese (my favorite).

Ingredients
- 1 ½ pound ham, precooked, sliced
- 2 cups mashed potatoes, with butter
- 2 cups cranberry salad
- 2 cups kale salad
- ½ cup cranberry sauce
- 6 dinner rolls
- 6 sliced cheddar cheese
- 6 cookies, lemon ginger spice
- 3 cups french green beans, blanched, hot with salt and pepper
- 12 oz carrot and celery sticks
- ½ can black olives, drained
- 1 5 oz. jar spicy-sweet peppers
- 7 snack pickles
- ¼ cup ranch dressing
- Red and green grapes
- 2 small pears
- 2 clementine oranges
- ½ red apple, sliced
- Rosemary and pomegranate seeds for garnish
- 6 lemon ginger cookies, (bought at Newport Avenue Market)

Where do you get your wood bowls from? ย Particularly, the smaller wood ones that you often show with dip or condiments in that appear to be white ceramic inside? ย ย I just ordered my 20โ board a month ago, and am anxiously awaiting โSantaโ (aka the UPS OR FEX ED guy) to deliver๐. ย Thanks for all the great recipes/ideas~
