Loaded with ham, salami, cheese, and more, the crackers are brushed with a delicious buttery topping and are then baked until warm and delicious, so they’re not your everyday cheese and crackers!

Ritz Cracker Party Sandwich

I love serving these on one of my Big Boards, and I’ve got some suggestions below on how to fill it up and make it look really stunning. Of course, any platter would do; you just need something large enough and with raised sides so the cracker sandwiches don’t slide off.

how to make Ritz Cracker Party Sandwiches

How to make Ritz Cracker Party Sandwiches

  1. Preheat your oven to 350-F, line baking sheets with parchment paper or foil and set them aside.
  2. Place 48 crackers – or up to 48 that’ll fit on the trays – in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Cut the ham slices into halves or quarters – depending on how large they are – and lightly fold each piece in half and lay them on top of each cracker.
  4. Top half the crackers with a slice of salami or pepperoni on top of the ham.
  5. Cut the cheese into 1-inch squares and place one slice of cheese on top of the meat on each cracker.
  6. Place a cracker on top of each sandwich, salted side facing up.
  7. Melt the butter and whisk in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and salt.
  8. Drizzle the butter mixture evenly over the cracker tops. A pastry brush will help you get an even layer of butter.
  9. Sprinkle the sandwich tops with Everything But The Bagel seasoning.
  10. Bake the cracker sandwiches for 10-12 minutes at 350-F or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the crackers are golden brown.
  11. Serve immediately while the crackers are warm and crisp.

To make the Big Board

  1. While the party sandwiches are in the oven, prepare a large bowl with a plate in the center of it to hold the cheese ball. Don’t forget a small knife for the cheese ball.
  2. Add the peppadew peppers and fresh rosemary around the plate to make a wreath for a holiday snack board presentation.
  3. Place the cracker sandwiches, right from the oven, around the board and serve immediately.

Tips & substitutions

  • You can make these crackers in 9×13 baking dishes, but you’ll need 2 dishes. Each dish will hold about 24 cracker sandwiches.
  • You can use any cracker, as long as they’re about the same size as Ritz.
  • Don’t drizzle the sandwiches with the butter until you’re ready to bake and serve. They will get soggy if they sit out too long.
  • Switch out the cheese – you can use cheddar, pepper Jack if you like a bit of spice, mozzarella, or any other easily melting cheese.
  • Switch out the meats – use any deli meat you like! Just keep the pieces small, so they fit on top of a cracker.

Serving suggestions

These Ritz Cracker sandwiches are so fun to make and serve, and they’re delicious, too! You really don’t need much to go with them, unless of course you’re hosting a party and want more finger foods. I love Apple & Goat Cheese Crostini and simple melon and blue cheese. Don’t forget about sangria for the adults!

Storage

This Ritz Cracker recipe is best eaten fresh. They will get soggy if they sit out for too long. You can pack up any leftover meat and cheese, refrigerate it, and use it for lunches later in the week.

  • 1 jar peppadew peppers, drained
  • 2-3 packages of fresh rosemary, to make the wreath

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with either parchment paper or foil.
  • Place 24 crackers in the bottom of a 13×9 inch baking dish, flat side down. Place another 24 crackers in the bottom of another 13×9 inch baking dish. Or, if you have an extra large baking sheet, you can make all 48 bites on one sheet.
  • Tear off pieces of ham and lightly fold over and place on each cracker. On half of the crackers you can add a small slice of pepperoni or salami (optional).
  • Cut the cheese into 1 inch pieces and place one piece of cheese on top of the ham and pepperoni. Top each mini sandwich with another cracker, salted side up.
  • Melt the butter and whisk in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and salt.
  • Pour the butter mixture evenly over the mini sandwiches. Use a pastry brush to even out the butter.
  • Sprinkle the Everything but the Bagel seasoning evenly over the top of the crackers.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the crackers are golden brown.
  • Serve right away, while the party sandwiches are warm (otherwise the crackers get soggy).
  • Enjoy!

To make the board:

  • While the party sandwiches are in the oven, prepare a large board with a plate in the center to hold a cheese ball.
  • Around it add the red peppers, and then the fresh rosemary (to make a wreath).
  • As soon as the crackers come out of the oven - serve within 5 minutes, and place each "sandwich" on the board.
  • Add a knife for the cheese ball and SERVE!
