Today my beautiful daughter is posting this scrumptious Butter Dill Sautéed Asparagus recipe from Seattle, where she is attending college in the Music Therapy Program. Abby’s been a violinist since age 4, and is one of my main loves in life. The blessing of having all 3 of my kids so close is such a gift. Close as in proximity, but also in the way they love and respect one another. As a mother, this is one of the greatest gifts in life.
Sautéed Asparagus
Recently she and her roommate Grace went to a very nice Italian restaurant for Seattle Restaurant Week, where they enjoyed this Butter Dill Sautéed Asparagus. Seattle Restaurant Week is where they serve you a three course meal for $33 at some very nice restaurants. They served Abby and Grace a similar Sautéed Asparagus dish, but with greek yogurt instead of creme fraiche. [Don’t forget about this great spring recipe: Pesto Asparagus Caprese Salad Recipe].

Abby added the creme fraiche for a tiny bit of sweetness, rather than the sourness from the yogurt.
This recipe is fresh, light, and perfect for spring!
[Written by Abby]
As I write this, I am sitting at a French Cafe in Capitol Hill, in the sunshine on a beautiful Sunday morning with my sweet roommates, and I couldn’t be happier with every little thing I’ve been given and everything that has led up to this point—the good and the bad—because it has brought me to this moment.
Spring typically represents a time of new beginnings and rejuvenation for most people. My new beginning, however, was planted in January of this year when I moved into a new apartment with my best friend from high school, Grace, and another girl, Angelica, I had never met before. This was one of the greatest leaps of faith I have made in my three years in Seattle.
I was wilting, but Grace and Angelica brought light and nourishment into my life.
Thankful for the smallest, everyday things
I have never been so thankful for the smallest, everyday things, like waking up early to read, drink coffee, and simply be in each others’ presence, and making banana pancakes while listening to Jack Johnson as the sun pours through the windows, and cozying up on the couch with a glass of wine and watching a movie as rain taps the rooftop, and walking in the sunlight to the farmer’s market, and waking up each morning knowing that the day will be warm and bright regardless of the weather.
I finally found a space where it was safe to unapologetically be me, where I am surrounded by positivity instead of pessimism and insecurity, where there is an overwhelming sense of community and support for each of our pursuits, where I can be in a home with people who are constant in showing love and compassion rather than walking on eggshells around capricious emotions. All of these things and more gave me the opportunity to grow that I would not have otherwise had.
Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, WA
What better way to celebrate a blossomed friendship than with a visit to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. It was a wonderful day to say the least. I’m still in awe of the beauty of these two women—they’re stunning human beings, but their looks don’t even compare to their hearts.
Surround yourself with people who encourage your efflorescence and prune the people who stunt your growth because, in the end, the people you surround yourself with will have a profound impact on the person you are. Choose people who promote your growth rather than stunt it.
