How to Serve Lox and Bagels
Be the hostess with the mostest when you serve a creative and delicious breakfast with lox, bagels, eggs, and fresh ingredients when you want to impress guests or celebrate special occasions. We love serving a Lox and Bagel Board on the weekend! You can also think about serving a Scrambled Eggs Brunch Board or a Waffle Brunch Board.
You can also serve these sides with a lox and bagel spread: A Brunch Board, deviled eggs, a Basil Lime Fruit Salad. For dessert? Our Best Blueberry Buckle!
Why we love this recipe
This board is not only vibrant in color, it’s so dang good, fresh, and lovely!
It’s perfect for a Sunday brunch, Super Bowl (or Game Day), Easter breakfast, or any holiday or gathering!
What is lox?
Lox is from the belly of salmon, and cured in a salty brine or a rub. It’s salty with a very strong flavor.
How to Create a DIY Lox and Bagels Board
Breakfast boards are fun for the weekends, or if out-of-town guests show up!
This actual board I’m using here is no longer available, but you can make this spread on our 20-inch board which I love.
Of course, it has a lip around it, so the food does not fall off.
How much cream cheese per bagel?
We love about 1-2 Tablespoons on each side of bagel (the more the better!), but you can adjust to your liking. So plan on 2-4 Tablespoons!
If you prefer bagels without cream cheese, you can serve a soft spread instead, or a soft cheese. Also add dips like tzatziki or hummus.

When to serve a bagel brunch board
You can serve this bagel board for a fancy brunch for the family or on special occasions. The fresh flavors are vibrant and delicous in the morning or late morning. It’s a great idea to bring to wedding and baby showers, birthday parties, family get-togethers, and holidays like Mother’s Day, Christmas Day, or Easter.
Tips and substitutions:
Serve 2 to 3 ounces of lox per bagel.
For the cream cheese, serve about 2 to 4 tablespoons per bagel.
Serve at least 1 bagel per person.
Swap out the toppings or add:
- Pickled Red Onions
- Radish slices
- Ribboned cucumbers (use a vegetable peeler to make ribbons)
- Avocados
- Charcuterie meats (like salami, pepperoni, or prosciutto)
- Green olives
- Swap out the chives for fresh dill and parsley
- Microgreens or sprouts
- Favorite soft cheese
Pair this with some coffee bread and fresh berries – and you have the ultimate Brunch spread! Just add our Mango Bellini – and Cheers!
Happy hosting!
