When the holiday season rolls around, I can’t wait to set a pretty table. Of course, living in the mountains, we have access to so many branches and other forms of natural beauty. This table setting, from a couple years ago, and a lovely Hot Bacon Crab Dip Recipe.
Can the holiday be any merrier?
Can you use fresh crab meat?
Yes, look for fresh crab meat in your grocery store meat department. It’s typically sold in plastic containers over ice at the market (near shrimp meat). These crabs have been steamed or boiled, and are very fresh, and might cost a little bit more.
What about crab meat from a can?
Yes, crab meat from a can is called lump crab meat, which is pieces of broken of crab. Crab meat from a can is perfect for recipes like this dip today, or crab cakes, salads, and casseroles.
Greenery and tea light candles brought together create a timeless, everyday holiday look. A look that never goes out of style. Start with a red table runner. (I also love this red theme, with pears!)
If you can pick up some festive plates, do it. (I bought these “MERRY” plates at our local Ace Hardware store:) Sometimes you can find entertaining pieces in the more unusual places, especially during the holidays.
Christmas plaid and reindeer plates (set of 4)
This brand of plates is no longer available, but grab these CHRISTMAS PLAID & REINDEER plates – they are my new favorite! [affiliate link]
Of course, adding “new” is not mandatory to setting an elegant table. I keep a few solid colored plates on hand (red, blue, yellow, and white), some that I’ve had for years, that work with so many table settings. Solid colors never go out of style!
Add gingham napkins and one elegant lamp or light in the center of the table.
We all know, even with the best set table, the best dinner party is all about people carving out time for one another. Haven’t you noticed that when you’re with people you really enjoy and love, that food tastes better?
It’s about coming together over a delicious meal, but actual sitting and lingering together is many times more enjoyable than the food.
I love that we can savor both!
