Friends, are you looking for the perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer for your dog?
Today I’m sharing a delightful recipe, and a video: How to make Apple Carrot Dog Biscuits recipe, and it’s perfect for your pet-loving friends!
Homemade dog biscuits
First of all, everyone loves a gift for their dog, right? And doggies love homemade dog biscuits! Well, since they’re not only a treat, they taste like human food! (So yummy to a puppy!)
Secondly, let’s get it right. When guests come to your home for the holidays, this statement is true.
Right?
We have 2 very rambuncious dogs that love to greet our guests at the front door. Alder, being a 6-month old Whoodle, and Haggis, a more mature 14-year-old Cairn Terrier.
Both adorable. In our eyes. But we’ve learned that not every guest is a dog-lover, so we have to quickly put our dogs away. In fact, I wrote a post awhile back on, Pet [Dog] Ettiquette when Entertaining.
In our house, any guest that befriends our dogs is an instant favorite!
How to Make Apple Carrot Dog Biscuits
This recipe comes from our friend, Jessica, who has a beautiful Pit Bull, Marz.
It’s for all you fellow dog-lovers out there, and perfect for gift-giving season!
Dog treat recipe
You make as you would any other cookie, using your favorite shaped cookie cutter.
Make, bake, and allow to cool.
One reader used half almond flour and half all-purpose flour, adding 1 1/2 teaspoon of flax seeds, and they turned out great.
Then stack the treats, and tie together with a big bow. Place in brown paper bags (you can decorate, or buy decorated bags), and GIVE AWAY!
You can also spoil your own pooch with a bit of extra pizazz added to their stockings – homemade dog treats!
Use a small cookie cutter to make about 20-24 biscuits!
So watch the video and see how yummy and easy this recipe is to make! ENJOY!

How to Make Apple Carrot Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 TBSP brown sugar, optional if your dog doesn't like sugar
- 1 apple, cored and grated (leave peel on)
- 1/2 cup carrots, peeled and grated
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4-1/2 cup water, note: the apples add moisture, so only add extra water if necessary
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 and grease a cookie sheet.
- Core and grate apples; peel and grate carrots (I used food processor).
- In one bowl, mix the flour, oats, and brown sugar. In separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the oil, water, and grated apples and carrots. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients bowl and mix completely.
- Carefully roll ‘dough’ out and cut out desired shape with a small cookie cutter.
- Bake for 40 – 45 minutes, or until apple juices are soaked and biscuits are firm.
- After biscuits cool, feel free to share with the pups in your life! Store in air-tight container.
- Serving size: makes 20-24 small dog biscuits.

Do you think I could use the paw print silicone mold?
I haven’t tried it, but sure!
Excellent! Dog loves them. Making these for the third time today. Thanks for sharing.
I made the once and she loved them so much I am making them again. My dog is small so I get twice as many . Can you freeze these? How long do you think the shelf life is in an air tight container?
I would think it would be like cookies … so maybe a week?
Going on vacation,Can I make ahead of time and freeze?
I have not tried freezing them, but I would think they would freeze just fine.
I made these today for my sweet girl Clementine. I used a smaller cookie cutter but still baked them for close to 40-45 minutes thinking the apple would have plenty of liquid to cook out. Well … that was too long of a baking time, they came out dark brown. The next batch I put in the oven, I cut the baking time in half and that worked well. Also, I put in coconut oil instead of water to get the dough to rolling consistency and I omitted the sugar.
I made these today for my three fur babies! They love them! I put very little sugar in, the apple and carrot would have natural sugars in them, next time I will try without any added sugar. Also added another egg to the dough for more protein.
This recipe is fantastic! Just made it for my rescue, a german shepherd mix.
These carrot and apple dog cookies are the best my dogs absolutely love them. Thank you!
Have made this recipe several times. The only thing I change is I do not use the brown sugar, sugar isn’t very good for dogs. I substitute honey or omit all together. My dogs love these !!
Thank you. Honey is dangerous for dogs.
We made these this afternoon, our girls are totally loving them!

Wanted to ask if substituting oat flour for whole wheat flour would work?
I have not tried oat flour, but I’m thinking you could substitute this!
Almonds can be dangerous to dogs. Using almond flour is not a safe alternative to flour.
The recipe is great as is.

Just made these, my dog absolutely loves them. I was worried I’d baked them too long or not enough but she seems to not mind. I’ve made them into bite size pieces rather than big biscuits as she’s only small.
How many would you recommend she eats in a day?
